Hampden Park is Scotland’s national stadium - a 38,000m² roof structure that demands a fall protection system capable of supporting safe,compliant maintenance access at scale, year-round. When the existing system at Hampden Park reached the point of requiring full replacement, the Scottish Football Association appointed Roofing Advisors to design and install a new, fully compliant solution across the entire roof.
Working directly with the Stadium Infrastructure Project Management as contract administrator, our Height Safety division removed the existing system and designed and installed a replacement fall protection network spanning 800m across 29 individual systems - delivered within a tight3-week programme.
Our Height Safety division was appointed to remove the existing fall protection system at Hampden Park in its entirety and design and install a new, fully compliant replacement. The brief was to provide a system that would allow the stadium’s maintenance staff to safely access the roof for gutter cleaning and other planned preventative maintenance (PPM) works going forward.
The completed installation spans 800m across 29 separate fall protection systems, using a combination of Bettersafe International Roof Angel horizontal lifeline systems. Given the scale and specific requirements of the Hampden Park roof structure, bespoke steel mounting brackets were designed and fabricated specifically for this project to ensurer secure, compliant anchorage across the full extent of the installation.
Installation alone does not guarantee safe use of a fall protection system - the people using it day-to-day need to understand exactly how it works. On completion of the installation, Roofing Advisors held a full handover session with the Hampden Park maintenance team, demonstrating how to correctly clip on and move safely across the new system. This practical, hands-on handover ensures the stadium’s own staff can use the new infrastructure confidently and safely for routine maintenance tasks.
The completed installation gives Hampden Park a modern, fully compliant fall protection system across its entire 38,000m² roof - 800m of horizontal lifeline coverage across 29 individual systems, engineered and installed to support safe access for planned maintenance work for years to come.
The bespoke steel mounting brackets developed specifically for this project reflect the level of technical engineering that a stadium roof of this scale and complexity requires. A standard off-the-shelf solution wouldn't have met the specific structural and access requirements at Hampden Park.
With the new system in place and the maintenance team fully briefed on its use, Hampden Park’s maintenance team can now carry out gutter cleaning and other PPM roof works safely and compliantly, without the need for additional specialist access support for routine tasks. This represents a meaningful improvement to the stadium’s long-term maintenance capability and a direct compliance benefit for the SFA.
The full removal, design, fabrication and installation programme - covering 800m of fall protection systems across 29 zones - was completed within a 3-week time frame, a strong demonstration of our Height Safety division’s ability to plan and deliver large-scale, technically complex projects efficiently within a live stadium environment.
