Roofing Advisors UK Ltd is delighted to have won the Green Roofing Award at this year’s NFRC Scottish Roofing Awards, sponsored by ROCKWOOL UK. The award recognises our biodiverse green roof at Swan Residences in Cowcaddens, Glasgow.
The ceremony took place at voco Grand Central Glasgow, and it was a great chance to catch up with friends and colleagues from across the industry. Thank you to the team at the NFRC for organising a brilliant event, and congratulations to all the other finalists on the day.
The Winning Project
Swan Residences is a building given a second life. A vacant three-storey office was retained, strengthened and extended to five storeys as 105 student bedrooms. At the top sits a 588m² BauderGREEN biodiverse green roof over a tapered warm roof build-up, supplied as a single-manufacturer Bauder system under one guarantee.
The roof is more than a finish. It absorbs and slows rainfall at source, feeds the rainwater harvesting system that supplies WC flushing throughout the building and creates urban habitat on a site with no ground-level space to spare. The tapered insulation forms the drainage falls and achieves an effective U-value of 0.14 W/m²K across the roof.
Delivered Under Pressure
The programme brought real logistical challenges. Crane lifts were limited to Sundays only, and every operative, tool and emergency egress route ran through a single 915mm roof hatch. Forty skids of insulation arrived across four Sunday lifts, with substrate and vegetation ordered against the lift day rather than the day they were needed on the roof.
Works ran from 16 March to 18 May 2026, nine weeks against a twelve week programme. That handed three weeks back to the following trades on a building with a fixed academic deadline. Operations Manager Gary Brown led the project for Roofing Advisors, with Bauder’s technical representative Francis Murray inspecting and signing off each stage of the build-up.

This award belongs to everyone who worked on the project. From early loading figures provided to the structural design team through to daily photographic records, drone imagery and a full timelapse of the build, it took careful planning and a lot of hard work on site. It’s a fitting recognition of what the team delivered.
