Bespoke Rooflight Installation Underway at Category A Listed St Laurence's RC Church, Greenock
Roofing Advisors UK Ltd is pleased to share details of a new project at St Laurence's RC Church in Greenock, being delivered on behalf of the Diocese of Paisley. The works involve the installation of a bespoke rooflight to the sanctuary roof area, including all associated roofing, weatherproofing and internal works.
A Building of Significant History
St Laurence's RC Church is a Category A listed building with a history that sets it apart from most heritage projects we encounter. The original church was destroyed during the Greenock Blitz in May 1941 and subsequently rebuilt in the early 1950s. It remains a building of considerable importance to the parish and to the wider Greenock community — one that carries both architectural significance and a deep human story.
Working on a building of this nature brings with it a responsibility that goes beyond technical delivery. The care taken over every detail of the works reflects the significance of the building and the community it serves.
The Scope of Works
Our works at St Laurence's centre on the installation of a bespoke rooflight to the sanctuary roof, a scope that demands close attention to both performance and preservation.
A central consideration throughout the design process has been the retention of the existing historic glass brick feature above the altar. This element has characterised the sanctuary space for decades, providing the distinctive natural light that defines the atmosphere of the interior. The new rooflight design has been developed to preserve that quality entirely, ensuring the visual and spiritual character of the space is maintained rather than altered by the works.
In addition to the rooflight installation and associated roofing and weatherproofing works, the scope includes internal builders' work and decoration — ensuring the finished result is complete and sympathetic throughout.

We are delighted to be delivering this project alongside rooflight specialists Structural Glass Design, whose expertise in bespoke glazing solutions is well suited to the demands of a listed building environment. Collaboration with specialists of this calibre is essential on a project where the technical and conservation requirements are as exacting as they are at St Laurence's.
