At Roofing Advisors UK Ltd, health and safety is not a box-ticking exercise. It is a culture, one that is built and sustained by the people on the ground who take it seriously every single day, not because they are told to, but because they understand what is at stake.
To formally recognise that culture and the individuals who drive it, our HSEQ Leadership Team has launched a new monthly Safety Recognition Award. We are delighted to introduce the initiative and to announce Dean Jenkins as our very first winner.
Why We Created the Award
Health and safety performance on construction and roofing sites is ultimately determined not by policy documents or management systems alone, but by the attitudes and behaviours of the people carrying out the work. The operative who pauses to flag a potential hazard before it becomes a problem, the team member who calls something out rather than walking past it, these are the people who make sites genuinely safer.
Our HSEQ Leadership Team created the Safety Recognition Award because we wanted a meaningful way to acknowledge that contribution. Formal accreditations and management systems are important, and Roofing Advisors UK Ltd holds CHAS Elite, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 across our operations. But those frameworks are only as effective as the people working within them. This award is about recognising the individuals who bring those standards to life on site, every day.
The award will be presented monthly, with recipients selected by our HSEQ Leadership Team on the basis of demonstrated commitment to proactive health and safety practice - going beyond the minimum, identifying risks before they escalate and contributing to a safer working environment for everyone around them.
Dean Jenkins was a straightforward choice for the first award. His approach to health and safety on site has been consistently proactive by identifying potential hazards before they develop into problems, raising concerns through the right channels and ensuring issues are properly resolved rather than left to chance.
That kind of attitude is exactly what a strong safety culture looks like in practice. It does not require a formal prompt or a management instruction. It is simply the way Dean approaches his work, and the effect of that on the safety of those around him is tangible.
Proactive hazard identification is one of the most valuable contributions any site operative can make. The majority of serious workplace incidents are preceded by near misses or warning signs that went unaddressed. Operatives like Dean who spotted those warning signs early and acted on them, play a direct role in preventing harm before it occurs.
We are delighted to recognise Dean's contribution with this inaugural award. He has set a strong standard for what the Safety Recognition Award represents, and we look forward to continuing to acknowledge outstanding safety behaviour across our teams in the months ahead.
Safety Culture at Roofing Advisors UK Ltd
Roofing Advisors UK Ltd operates across roofing, heritage restoration, height safety systems and planned preventative maintenance - sectors where working at height is a daily reality and where the consequences of safety failures can be severe. Maintaining a strong, proactive safety culture across all of our divisions and sites is therefore not simply a regulatory obligation. It is a core part of how we operate and how we look after our people.
Our HSEQ framework is underpinned by accreditations including CHAS Elite and SafeContractor, and we invest consistently in training, equipment and systems that support safe working practices across every project we deliver. The Safety Recognition Award is a further expression of that commitment. It's a way of embedding safety values at an individual level and making clear that proactive, responsible behaviour is noticed, valued and celebrated within our business.
For clients, supply chain partners and prospective employees, the introduction of this award is a signal of the kind of business Roofing Advisors UK Ltd is. We take the wellbeing of our people seriously, and we are building a culture that reflects that from the ground up.
Congratulations, Dean
A well-deserved first win. Thank you for the standard you set on site and for the example you provide to those around you. We look forward to announcing our next recipient in the coming month.
