Height Services Division Wins Fall Protection Project at Barclays Hampden for the Scottish Football Association

Roofing Advisors UK Ltd's Height Services division is delighted to have been appointed to deliver the design, supply and installation of a bespoke fall protection system at Barclays Hampden, Scotland's national football stadium, for the Scottish Football Association (SFA).

The project continues our growing presence within the football stadia sector and represents a significant addition to our Height Services portfolio, bringing together our expertise in roof safety system design, installation and ongoing compliance management at one of the most high-profile venues in Scottish sport.

The Project: A Bespoke Fall Protection System for Scotland's National Stadium

Hampden Park is Scotland's largest and most prominent football stadium, hosting national team fixtures, cup finals and major sporting events throughout the year. As with any large public venue, maintaining safe access to the building's roof and high-level areas is a critical responsibility for the facilities management team.

Our appointment by the SFA covers the full scope of fall protection provision, from initial design through to completed installation. The system will be bespoke - designed specifically for the geometry, structure and access requirements of Hampden's roof - ensuring that it provides effective, compliant fall protection across all areas where maintenance operatives and contractors are required to work at height.

Off-the-shelf fall protection solutions are rarely appropriate for stadium environments. The scale, the roof profile and the range of access scenarios that need to be accommodated all demand a tailored approach. Our Height Services team has the design capability and technical knowledge to develop a system that meets the specific needs of the venue and satisfies the requirements of current Working at Height Regulations.

Training and Ongoing Compliance

The scope of the project extends beyond installation alone. On completion of the works, we will deliver formal training for the stadium's facilities management team on the safe and correct use of the new fall protection system. This is an essential component of any compliant height safety programme. A system is only effective if the people using it understand how it works, what its limitations are and what procedures to follow when working within it.

In addition to the initial training, we will provide ongoing maintenance and annual recertification of the system, ensuring it remains in full compliance with current standards throughout its operational life. Annual inspection and recertification of fall protection systems is not optional; it is a regulatory requirement, and one that carries significant implications for the safety of anyone working at height on the structure.

This end-to-end approach (design, installation, training and ongoing compliance management) reflects how Roofing Advisors UK Ltd structures its Height Services offer. Rather than simply installing a system and moving on, we build a continuing relationship with our clients that ensures their roof safety infrastructure remains safe, compliant and fit for purpose year after year.

Why Fall Protection Systems Matter on Stadium Roofs

Large stadium roofs require regular maintenance. Guttering, drainage systems, roof coverings, flashings and building services equipment all need to be inspected, maintained and repaired on a planned basis. Each time a maintenance operative or contractor accesses the roof to carry out those tasks, they are working at significant height, often on surfaces that present a slip or fall risk.

Without a properly designed and installed fall protection system in place, that activity cannot be carried out safely or legally. A bespoke mansafe or fall arrest system provides the anchor infrastructure that allows operatives to work at height within a controlled, compliant safety framework - protecting both the individuals carrying out the work and the organisations responsible for the venue.

For a national stadium like Hampden, where the reputational, legal and human consequences of a safety failure would be severe, having a robust, well-maintained fall protection system is not simply a compliance exercise. It is a fundamental part of responsible facilities management.

A Growing Presence in the Football Stadia Sector

This project follows our recent planned preventative maintenance guttering works at Celtic Park, and reflects the continued development of Roofing Advisors UK Ltd's presence within Scotland's football stadia sector. Large sporting venues present a distinctive set of roofing and height safety challenges, and our Height Services division has the experience, qualifications and technical capability to meet them.

We are proud to be working with the Scottish Football Association on this project and to be contributing to the safety and maintenance infrastructure of Scotland's national stadium.

Looking Ahead

We are targeting completion of the installation ahead of what promises to be a landmark summer for Scottish football, with the national team set to represent Scotland on the world stage. We look forward to delivering the project on programme and to a standard that reflects the significance of the venue.
