Roofing Advisors UK Ltd Awarded Heritage Roofing Project on Category A Listed St Vincent Crescent, Glasgow

Roofing Advisors UK Ltd is delighted to announce a new project award on St Vincent Crescent, Glasgow — a Category A listed building and one of the city's most significant examples of Victorian residential architecture.

The Building

St Vincent Crescent is widely regarded as one of Glasgow's finest surviving Victorian terraces. Category A listed status is the highest level of building protection in Scotland, reserved for structures of special architectural or historic interest. Every decision made during works on a building of this classification must prioritise the preservation of its historic character alongside the delivery of a weathertight, high-performing roof.

The Scope of Works

Our works at St Vincent Crescent will cover a comprehensive package of traditional roofing and building envelope repairs, including:

  • Traditional Scotch slate roofing — reinstating the roof covering using slates appropriate to the age and listed status of the building
  • Chimney repairs — addressing deterioration to chimney stacks, a common source of water ingress on Victorian terrace buildings
  • Roof light works — repairing and restoring roof light details to ensure they are weathertight and sympathetic to the existing roof
  • Leadwork — renewing lead flashings and junction details to traditional standards
  • Timber rot repairs — identifying and replacing affected timber elements, restoring the structural integrity of the roof construction

Scotch slating and leadwork in particular are disciplines that require experienced operatives with a sound understanding of how these materials behave and how they should be installed on a building of this age and quality.

An Open Day With Industry Partners

One of the standout elements of this project is a planned open day, to be delivered in collaboration with Glasgow City Heritage Trust, KSNPM, James Gibb Residential Factors and Adams Napier Partnership Ltd.

The event will provide a live demonstration of traditional slate and lead working techniques — offering building owners, factors and property professionals a direct insight into the craft skills involved in heritage roofing work of this nature. Traditional roofing techniques are not widely understood outside the heritage construction sector, and events like this play a useful role in building that understanding among the people responsible for commissioning and managing these buildings.

We are grateful to all four partners for their collaboration on this initiative and look forward to sharing further details as the project progresses.

More to Follow

We will share further updates on the St Vincent Crescent project as works get underway, including details of the open day. Watch this space.
