Three years ago we started this challenge as a team.
This year we want it to be an industry movement.
If you work in construction anywhere across Glasgow and the central belt, this is your invitation to come and join us.
It doesn't matter how big your company is or how active you are.
All that matters is getting outside and showing up for each other this May.
This is the third year Roofing Advisors UK has run the 5K a Day in May challenge and we’re making it the biggest yet, with construction and property companies from right across the central belt of Scotland taking part.
But this isn’t just a fitness challenge. The whole point of getting outside; whether that’s a walk in the park, a jog along the river Clyde or a hike up a hill - is to take some time for yourself and the people around you. Check in with a friend. Arrange to walk with a colleague. Call a relative. That’s what Men Matter Scotland is all about, and that’s what this month is really for.
Construction workers in the UK are nearly four times more likely to take their own lives than workers in other sectors. That’s not a statistic we’re willing to ignore.
Every pound raised goes directly to Men Matter Scotland, a Glasgow-based men’s mental health andsuicide prevention charity run by people with lived experience of mental health challenges.
“Guys who have lived through it helping guys going through it.”
Men Matter Scotland
They provide peer-to-peer support, counselling, crisis intervention and a safe space for men who are struggling.
Based in Drumchapel, Glasgow, they’re open seven days a week. This May, Men Matter Scotland are also putting on community walks throughout the month - open to everyone, a great chance to get outside, meet others and learn more about the chairty. Keep an eye on their website and socials for dates and details.
Get outside every day in May and cover 5K or 10,000 steps — whichever works for you. Walk it, jog it, cycle it, run it. The movement is the starting point; what you do with that time is up to you.

The challenge is about much more than covering the distance. Here’s what we’d love to see throughout May:
We’d love every member of your team to get outside every day, but we also know that life happens. Here’s how it works:

Five things to do before 1st May:
One of the best things about this challenge is seeing where people end up; someone doing their 5K on a beach in Tenerife, up a Munro, along the Clyde. Share it. It keeps everyone going and shows the world that Scottish construction takes this seriously.
Thank you for being part of this.
Get outside. Check in on each other. Make May count.
We have images that you can share on social media to let your friends and family know how your 5k a Day challenge is going and to help you get sponsorship for your challenge. Click on the images below to copy and share on your social media channels.
